Indian Railways Data Breach: Hackers say data of 3 crore people on sale, railways denies breach
Amid claims by a hackers’ forum that data of over three crore users of Indian Railways is on sale on the dark web, the railway ministry on Wednesday said that no such data breach happened in any of its systems or organisations. Denying the claims, it said there has been no breach of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) data.
However, it said IRCTC has asked all its business partners to immediately examine whether there is any data leak from their end and apprise the results along with corrective measures.
“On analysis of sample data, it was found that the key pattern does not match with IRCTC history application programming interface. Suspected data breach is not from the IRCTC servers,” a ministry spokesperson said. He said the Railway Board had “shared a possible data breach pertaining to passengers of Indian Railways”.
