Zscaler has appointed Dr. Swamy Kocherlakota as Executive Vice President of Agentic AI Security Engineering, reflecting a shift in focus toward securing autonomous AI systems that operate beyond traditional chatbot use cases. The role is intended to address emerging security challenges as AI systems increasingly function as independent agents interacting with applications, data, and users.
The company said the appointment responds to limitations in existing security models, which were designed primarily for human users and static applications. As AI agents begin to act autonomously across workflows, these models face gaps in visibility, identity management, and control.
Dr. Kocherlakota brings more than three decades of experience in enterprise technology and has previously led AI strategy initiatives within large, regulated organisations. In his new role, he will be responsible for shaping architectural approaches to securing agent-based AI workflows, with an emphasis on integrating security controls at the system design level rather than relying on standalone tools.
Zscaler indicated that the position will focus on extending Zero Trust principles to environments where both human and machine identities interact dynamically. The aim is to adapt identity, access, and policy frameworks to account for AI agents that can initiate actions, make decisions, and move across systems without direct human involvement.
The appointment highlights a broader industry trend in which security teams are reassessing how emerging AI-driven workflows alter threat models, particularly in areas such as identity abuse, data exposure, and automated privilege escalation.
Zscaler noted that its AI security initiatives remain subject to execution risks and broader market and regulatory factors, as outlined in its public filings with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
